Austin’s alluring Graffiti Park

Austin’s alluring Graffiti Park

We made a return trip to Austin’s fun and funky, Graffiti Park in the Castle Hill neighborhood. The cement basement ruins of a building that was never built, serves as a blank canvas for artists and taggers. Nothing is permanent at Graffiti Park. Beautiful works of art stay around for a few days, before disappearing when covered with more graffiti. It seems like there were more taggers – and visitors – than the last time I was there. Whoever owns the property, hat’s off to them for letting this outdoor art space exist for the people.

Because of the castle at the top of the hill, the Austin neighborhood around the Park is called Castle Hill. It’s pretty much right downtown.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, vote for me and there will be a graffiti park in every town!”
Graffiti Park is for the people, and by the people. There are no rules or laws.
