As these ticket stubs will showcase, lots of big tours and shows in the 1980s. It was a fun time for music and personal adventure. All these years later, so grateful to have seen these shows.
Father’s Day 1988. I remember taking our dad to the Surf Club in Bemus Pt for breakfast. Then retreated back home -gathered the troops – and went to Rich Stadium. I only recall seeing The Scorpions and Van Halen – who both played killer shows. A fun show, in the hot summer nights of 1988.
I wasn’t the biggest Pink Floyd fan, but I knew this was a show not to be missed. Rick, Kim, Matt and I journeyed to the show in Toronto. I remember the opening notes of the show starting and for the first time ever, was in somewhat of a stampede. We survived. Seemingly…one out of two people were sitting, watching the show, and smoking weed. The crowd gave a sustaining five minute standing ovation at the show’s end. We ended the night around 4:30 a.m. ish dropping everyone off. Matt spilt a whole cooler of water in my back seat of the 1979 Audi. That’s how the night came to a conclusion.
Had 4th row seats with Missy and Cammie – who both worked at National Record Mart. The moment the lights went out for the opening band Warrant, wood chairs on the floor were being thrown in all directions. I ended up retreating a little and watching most of the show with from up near the side of the stage. I had completely lost my friends.
David Lee Roth at Niagara Falls Convention Center (now the Seneca Niagara Casino) on March 18, 1988. Faster Pussycat opened the show. Somehow, we ran out of gas in the parking ramp. While my buds ran to get a can of gas, my other friend and I listened to the car radio. Which is when I heard Pink Floyd tickets for Toronto were going on-sale the next morning.
No one was cooler than REM at this point in the universe. Some buds and I stayed overnight in a hotel, just down the street from the Maple Leaf Gardens. The crowd treated REM like gods.
